If "zipping" has made it to the dictionary, WinZip is to blame
- Quick and easy compressions
- Supports the use of passwords
- Share via Facebook and email
- It can create self-extracting files
- Improved compatibility
- Only compresses into ZIP format
WinZip is one of the most popular programs for compressing and decompressing files. Easy to use and quick, it supports many formats. This version is compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit systems.
Support for lots of compressed formats
Besides the classic ZIP format, WinZip is able to open many others (RAR, BZ2, CAB, LHA, 7Z, IMG, ISO), even if it only compresses them into ZIP and LHA. You can also create self-extracting files and protect them from prying eyes with a password.
WinZip allows you to directly share your file via Facebook, email or ZipSend from the interface, and it's compatible with most mail clients and webmail services such as Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail and Hotmail.
A wizard that simplifies everything
WinZip stands out from the rest of the competition in terms of ease of use. The wizard, which simplifies the opening and creation of compressed files, is one of its strengths.
WinZip has a user-friendly interface, and the rate of compression/decompression is remarkable, especially when it is dealing with medium or large sized files.
The downside of the program, is that it only compresses files in ZIP format, a major limitation when compared with competitors such as IZArc, 7-Zip and WinRAR. However, it still remains a good solution, and for 64-bit OS as well.
Although there are more comprehensive alternatives on the market such as WinRAR, WinZip is a good alternative for compressing and decompressing files.
